About TuneShout
What exactly is Tuneshout?
TuneShout is a new website that strives to break the traditional barriers of the music industry. We want to give every artist a fair chance at gaining exposure, and every listener an unbiased selection of independent music. We are an interactive, real-time music chart for up and coming artists, as well as a forum where artists and listeners work in unison.
How the heck does this thing work?
The key to this site is user interaction. TuneShout is a user-driven marketplace for independent music. Artists upload their music free of charge and maintain a Tuneshout band profile. Listeners can download some MP3 audio tracks for free, and premium tracks for 89¢ each. Listeners are able to write reviews, participate in music forums, browse band websites and vote on artists. A culmination of this listener interaction helps determine who makes it in to the 'stage'. The user-driven system benefits both artist and listener. It is truly a win-win situation.
Who runs Tuneshout?
Tuneshout is founded and run by three music-loving friends.

Jeff Pollard, Chief Architect
Jeff is the Chief Software Architect for TuneShout, and holds a degree in Geography with a focus in Geographic Information System (GIS) from the University of Washington. Aside from Tuneshout, Jeff works as a web developer for a well-known Search Engine Optimization company based in Seattle and previously played the freelance game. Jeff's weapons of construction are LAMP programming, site architecture, design and information architecture. When he's not code slinging, Jeff loves all kinds of music and is working hard to become a somewhat competent DJ.

Joshua Thompson, CEO
Josh is the Chief Executive Officer for TuneShout. Prior to Tuneshout, Josh worked at Microsoft and co-founded OP4 Paintball, Inc. When he is not mangaging the business side of Tuneshout, Joshua spends his time listening to indie music and watching movies. Josh holds a degree in Business Economics from Eastern Oregon University.

Lauren Brisbo, Community Outreach Coordinator
Lauren is the Community Outreach Coordinator for TuneShout. In addition to fostering the growth of the Tuneshout community, Lauren also works at a public affairs and communications firm in Seattle. From Prague to Tokyo to Tegucigalpa, Lauren is an avid traveler who enjoys soaking up local culture like a sponge. Lauren's musical taste ranges from Sufjan Stevens to Earth, Wind and Fire to ManĂ¡. Basically, she's an equal-opportunity listener. Lauren holds a B.A. from the University of Washington with a degree in Communication and minor in International Studies.
For Artists
Who can participate in Tuneshout?
If you are a serious and passionate independent artist, we want you! TuneShout accepts artists who either own exclusive rights to their music, or are signed to labels that permit them to upload and sell DRM free music. If you are unsure about about your qualifications, please refer to the artist terms and conditions, or contact .
What are the benefits of promoting myself on this site?
Simple. At Tuneshout, you get more exposure and benefits than at any other online music site. We don't favor bands who hire aggregators, publicists or agents. We leave it completely up to listeners to determine who they like, and which artists get the most exposure. More information on the benefits of becoming a TuneShout artist.
How does the ranking system work on Tuneshout?
The ranking system at Tuneshout is called the 'Stage'. The Stage ranks the most popular bands on the site, and is updated continuously to give all artists a fair chance at making it to the top. Popularity on the site does not exclusively depend on the amount of listener downloads. Artists are ranked on a variety of factors, including user votes, feedback and downloads. Artists can also gain ranking points by simply maintaining their band profile and uploading new songs. More about the ranking system of the stage.
What is a "shout"?
Listeners have the ability give 'shout outs' to artists that they like. A 'shout' is a vote which helps Tuneshout determine the most popular bands on the site based on user feedback. Let your favorite artists know that you dig their music!
Can I sell my tracks?
Artists have the choice of selling their uploads as 'premium tracks' for 89¢, or offering their music for free to help build a fan base. TuneShout knows that the indie music scene is not created equal; some bands are ahead, and some bands are behind. This is why we encourage artists to choose the route that is most conducive to their needs. For more information about pricing and options.
If I choose to sell my downloads, how will I get paid?
Royalties will be deposited in to your PayPal account.
Can I upload files containing sexist, racist or degrading material?
Definitely not. TuneShout has the right to take down any music that is considered to be hateful.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. We don't charge a start up fee, and never will.
